Intergenerational Services
Four times a year Edgewood has Intergenerational services, a time when all ages are specifically included in worship and there are no church classes. Prayers may be led by elementary students or the scriptures read by youth. These lively, energetic services often celebrate church special days:
Mission Trip Reports The report of the 2011 mission trip to Pine Ridge Reservation will celebrate our continued partnership with the Lakota people and share ways that we can continue our relationship. The Pine Ridge Mission Team will tell of their work completing home repairs while learning Lakota history, culture, and spirituality. September 25, 2011, 10:00 am 2010: Nicaragua Truman Morrison Lecture and Sermon 2011: Rediscovering Luther. The weekend will include speakers, plays, and panel discussions encompassing not only the life of Luther but also many aspects of the Protestant Reformation.
Saturday, October 29, 2011, 7:00 pm & Sunday, October 30, 2011, 10:00 am 2010: The "Yet" of Endurance, Walter Brueggemann, Professor Emeritus, Columbia Theological Seminary 2009: Political Islam, Mohammed Ayoob, University Distinguished Professor of International Relations, James Madison College, Michigan State University Interfaith Thanksgiving Service In 2011, the annual interfaith Thanksgiving service will be held at Edgewood. This is a wonderful opportunity to host our brothers and sisters from other faith communities. Join us to experience the joy of a joint choir and the gift of hearing scripture, liturgy, and meditations from different religious traditions. Monday, November 21, 2011, 7:00 pm Service of the Longest Night/Blue Christmas Service This service is for anyone who is struggling with the holidays due to grief, loss, or anything else that might make this a difficult rather than joyous time. In this service we acknowledge that Christ came into the world to shine light into our shadowed places. The service is a time of music, reflection, candle-lighting, and hope. Sunday, December 18, 2011, 4:00 pm Christmas Eve Services December 24, 2011, 5:00 & 9:00 pm Ash Wednesday Service February 22, 2011, 7:00 pm Maundy Thursday Service This communion and tenebrae (turning down the lights) service marks Jesus' last hours on earth, his message for his followers of peace and justice and love, and a reflection on the meaning of the coming crucifixion and resurrection.
