Music at Edgewood

Youth Bell Choir in rehearsal
Edgewood’s music program offers opportunities for all ages and abilities to learn and grow and enjoy making a joyful noise together. Edgewood’s program has a strong classical base with a lot of variety in the kinds of music that are a part of our worship service. All people are welcome to join in. No experience is necessary. Choirs rehearse from September through May each year. Childcare is available for all rehearsal times if requested in advance.

Singing Choirs
Adult Choir: This choir sings during most Sunday worship services. The selections range from classical arrangements to spirituals to more modern pieces. The choir practices on Thursday nights from 7:30-9 pm. The Adult Choir director is Monty Bieber.
Youth Ensemble: This group is open to grades 6-12 and meets on Sunday mornings after worship from 11:10-11:40 during the school year. Marcia Beer is the choir director. Choir members sing a variety of traditional, modern and world music.
Children’s Choir: The children’s choir (for those in preschool through 5th grade) invites our youngest members to join in learning the basics of singing and having fun through music. Jon Ritz, Brandon Grafius, and Stephen Gasteyer--talented Edgewood musicians who are dads of young children--lead the children's choir. In addition to occasionally singing in worship, the children often perform a Christmas musical during the early family-oriented Christmas Eve service. The choir rehearses on Sunday mornings from 11:10-11:30 a.m.
Handbell Choirs
Adult Handbell Choir: Handbell choir is a great way to start to participate in the music program. This choir is led by JoAnn Hubbard and reading music is not necessary. The choir practices from 6:30-7:30 pm on Thursdays.
Youth Handbell Choir: This choir is open to youth in 6th – 12th grades and is directed by JoAnn Hubbard, assisted by Marcia Beer. The youth learn the basics of handbell ringing as well as pieces for worship and tunes from popular music. The youth practice on Sunday mornings from 12:00-12:30pm.
Special Music
Several times during the year Edgewood has special musical Sundays. Instrumental Sundays invite all members to bring any instrument and play along with the hymns. Once a year we celebrate worship through Jazz Sunday. Our adult choir offers a special cantata or other long piece of music in the spring. Throughout the summer our choirs take a break and members of the congregation offer their particular musical gifts from jazz to soloists to guitars and more. Contact our office administrator Cindy Winter for more information.
Messiah Sing Along
Join MSU choirs and soloists to sing Handel's Messiah. Conducted by David Rayl, accompanied by Judy Kabodian. Sunday December 4, 2011, 7:00 p.m.
