Edgewood Teams

Congregation members make up Edgewood’s leadership and vote to call pastors, decide policy, elect leaders, and pass the budget. The major business of the church is conducted at an annual congregational meeting with occasional additional meetings called for big decisions. The church council, comprising elected officers and at-large members, represents the congregation between annual meetings. Edgewood has a constitution, bylaws, and standing rules. 

Teams made up of congregation members work on specific aspects of church life and leadership.

Building and Grounds Team

Oversees and coordinates the general maintenance and upkeep of the church building and grounds. Recent projects have included:
  • Replacing the back driveway and path to Memorial Garden 

  • Installing a new church sign 
  • Developing an inventory of repairs and upgrades needed and a plan for accomplishing them 
  • Establishing a key-control policy and operating procedure

Education Team

Plans and implements Christian education programs for children and youth. Projects typically include
  • Implementation of the Safe Church policy, much of which applies to children 
  • Organizing special church school workshops for Easter and Advent, helping plan intergenerational services, organizing the youth fellowship program, involving youth in Edgewood’s peace and justice activities 
  • Teacher recruitment and recognition activities

Member Ministry Team

A recent spin-off from the Congregational Life Team, Member Ministry assumed responsibility for health and other care ministries and efforts to integrate visitors and new members fully into the life of the church. Ongoing responsibilities include producing the member directory, reviewing the membership roll, and enhancing the left-hand greeters and mentor programs. Subcommittees include
  • Care Assistance 
  • Health Education and Resources 
  • Healthcare Advocacy 
Early activities of the team have included organizing and implementing
  • A wellness fair 
  • Winter valet parking service 
  • Review of welcome packets and the Edgewood Web site

Congregational Life Team

Enhances the social, educational, and spiritual life of the congregation by planning and conducting fellowship, hospitality, educational, and social events to promote community, including

  • Super Thursday dinners, Coffee Time after church, hospitality for funerals and special events, monthly lunch programs, and Thanksgiving Day brunch 
  • Edgewood Camp, Bows Lake Retreat, Arts Festival and Cabin Fever University, Film Nights, Campus Ministry, softball team, and outdoor activities 
  • Adult Sunday School, Circles of Faith, Bible studies, special series, and  book groups

Finance Team

Prepares the annual budget; manages investments; organizes annual stewardship campaign and capital fund drives; promotes and accepts bequests/ trusts/ gifts; disburses benevolence, capital tithe funds, and educational loan monies; oversees annual financial audit; promotes planned giving.

Outreach-Mission Team

Promotes service ministries on a local, national, and international level; advocates for peace and justice, and offers educational opportunities relating to service and advocacy. Satellite teams are

Over the past year the team planned and organized
  • Collections that resulted in nearly $30,000 donated to meet local, national, and international needs   
  • Participation in Pride March; AIDS walk; CROP walk; Community Relations Coalition event, Christian Services collections; mitten, hat, and scarf tree projects; Sunday Farmers Market; meals for Loaves and Fishes; Thanksgiving baskets 
  • Mission trip to Nicaragua to implement water purification systems in local villages

Worship Team

Supports activities that contribute to a meaningful worship experience. Typical activities include


  • Decorating for Christmas and Easter and changing banners and table coverings to coordinate with the liturgical year 
  • Serving as head usher and assuring that volunteer readers, greeters, ushers, and communion servers are available 
  • Assuring reliability of the sound system 
  • Arranging for guest preachers as needed
