This service on the fourth Sunday in Advent is for anyone struggling with grief, loss, or anything else that might make this a difficult rather than joyous time. In this service we acknowledge that Christ came into the world to shine light into our shadowed places. The service is a time of music, reflection, candle-lighting, and hope. Rabbi Michael Zimmerman of the Kehillat Israel community will share a Jewish perspective on the Messiah and invite us to consider the differences between the Christian understanding of Jesus as Messiah and the Jewish understanding of the Messiah throughout history and today. Rabbi Zimmerman also serves as a member of the Chaplaincy Advisory Council for the State of Michigan's Department of Corrections, a hospice chaplain, and a spokesman for the Michigan Interfaith Climate Energy Campaign.
