Adult Sunday School ClassThe Adult Study Group gathers to discuss theology, scripture and the intersection of Christian thought and our modern world. It is a casual, drop-in group with lively discussion and plenty of room for multiple points of view. The group often selects a theological book and works its way through it. Recent selections have been Sins of the Scriptures by John Shelby Spong, The Heart of Christianity by Marcus Borg, and One River, Many Wells by Matthew Fox.
Sundays 8:45 - 9:45 a.m. Monthly Lunch SeriesThe Monthly Lunch group meets on the third Monday of the month for lectures, peer-led discussions about opinions and experiences, or book reviews. Hear Edgewood and community presenters take on subjects such as the History of the UCC, Violence and the Sacred, and Who is God. There is always lots of time for questions and discussion. Bring a brown bag lunch and a desire to learn.
3rd Monday, September - May, 12:00 p.m. lunch, 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. speaker Circles of FaithWhat do you believe about God, forgiveness, Jesus, the Bible, or miracles? What doubts and questions do you have? Wouldn't you like to know what questions other people have, too? Circles of Faith meet twice a month to wrestle with issues of life and faith. It's a place to explore, grow, and deepen friendships in the church.
October - February, Times and starting date TBA Nicaragua Study: Exploring the Partnership between CEPAD, Aqua Clara, & EdgewoodCome find out more about Edgewood's exciting work in Nicaragua. Since 2005 Edgewood has been working with the people of Nicaragua to promote justice, fight poverty, and grow together. In summer 2012 we will go on our 4th trip to Nicaragua, and we will learn more about the people of Nicaragua, the exciting developments in our clean water program, and the possibilities to enhance and continue this relationship.
Sundays, April 15, 22, & 29, 11:30 a.m. | Truman Morrison Lecture and Sermon2011: Rediscovering Luther. The weekend will include speakers, plays, and panel discussions encompassing not only the life of Luther but also many aspects of the Protestant Reformation.
Women, Food & GodThis 6-week group will explore many themes in this New York Times bestselling self-help book by Geneen Roth. Each session will feature discussion about a theme such as spirituality or mindful eating, an elective exercise and/or sharing from last session, and light refreshments. All are welcome, ages 18 and up. This group is free, and attendance is not required for all sessions to participate. Registration is encouraged but not required. Presented by Jessi De La Cruz.
Mondays, September 19 & 26 and October 3, 10, 17, & 24 Advent Study: The MessiahThe Messiah, composed by George Handel in 1741, will be the subject of this class presented by the Rev. Jody Betten. Using Hallelujah, the Kerygma Study by Carol Bechtal, we will explore the Scriptural texts that are the basis for the lyrics of Messiah. We will listen to a recording of the Messiah produced by the Chicago Symphony and examine the collaboration of text and music. As we study we will be inspired to deeper worship during this season of focus on the one who comes as Immanuel, God With Us. A public Messiah sing-along will occur on December 8.
